The name change
No. Superior Fruit Equipment isn't closing — it's simply operating under the name of the company's flagship identity, Hickok Tools and Family Brands. Same company, same team, same standards.
Hickok has been forging professional cutting tools since 1928 and is our most recognized, best-selling brand. Leading with the Hickok name — under the Family Brands umbrella — gives customers one clear identity for everything we make and everything we distribute.
One place to find every brand we carry, an easier way to discover the right tool for the job, the option to buy direct from us, and more guides and support content than before.
Nothing on your end changes. Your account, your order history, and the way you reach us all stay exactly the same.
We'll always point you to the current site and contact details. If anything moves, old links will redirect so nothing is lost.
Our family of brands
Seven brands, one standard: our own manufactured lines — Hickok, Wells & Wade, Fanno, and VACA — alongside the specialist partner brands we import and distribute: ARS, Manzana, and Antonini.
Yes. Becoming Hickok Tools and Family Brands doesn't narrow what we offer — every brand we carried before, manufactured or imported, is still here, under one name.
The Hickok and VACA lines are forged in America, from American-made steel. Wells & Wade and Fanno are also manufactured here, using U.S. and international parts. ARS, Manzana, and Antonini are partner brands we've hand-selected to meet that same standard.
About / Ownership
Hickok is our flagship brand — the one we're most widely known for, and the name that now leads the entire company identity. It represents our American-made heritage, particularly our professional tree loppers crafted from American-made steel.
Hickok is our most recognized and best-selling brand, made in the USA since 1928. It's built on American-made steel, a professional heritage trusted by orchard workers and tree care crews day in and day out, and a broad appeal that now reaches serious home gardeners and landscape professionals too.
Hickok Materials & Craftsmanship
Hickok tree loppers feature blades and hooks forged from American-made steel, built for heavy-duty cutting in orchards and tree care. Handles are available in durable aircraft-grade aluminum (14″ to 36″) or American-made hickory (18″ to 36″).
Hickok loppers are made in the USA with American-made steel, aluminum and other parts, giving us full consistency and traceability. We heat-treat every part in-house for proper toughness and edge retention, with constant inspection and testing throughout manufacturing.
Hickok loppers use bypass cutting — the blade slices past a hook like scissors, producing a clean cut that promotes healthy plant healing, ideal for live wood and green growth. Hickok fruit clippers are designed for single-hand operation with a leather strap, letting harvest crews clip fruit stems quickly without bruising the fruit.
Caring for Your Hickok Tools
Clean blades after each use with a cloth dampened in rubbing alcohol or a mild solvent to remove sap and debris. Oil the pivot point and blade regularly with a light machine oil or camellia oil to prevent rust. Sharpen periodically using a fine whetstone or diamond sharpener, maintaining the original bevel angle. Store in a dry location — for extended storage, apply a thin coat of oil to all metal surfaces. Replace worn parts promptly; replacement blades, hooks, springs, bumpers and centerbolts are available for most models.
Keep blades clean to prevent sap transfer between cuts. Replace springs when tension weakens — replacement springs are one of our top-selling items because they're easy to swap and extend the life of your clippers. Check the centerbolt tightness periodically and adjust as needed for optimal blade alignment.
