History
Fanno Saw Works was founded in 1920 in Chico, California, by A.A. Fanno — a boat builder and carpenter by trade who settled in the orchard country of Northern California around the turn of the century. Tired of climbing his almond trees to prune them with ineffective tools, Fanno forged the industry's first curved-blade pole saw, clearing high limbs cleanly from the ground. Its secret was the patented "Fanno" tooth — a deep gullet that clears green wood for a fast, smooth cut that never binds.
Word of mouth carried those saws up and down the West Coast, and in the 1940s the company answered demand for a blade that folded like a pocket knife with six folding models embraced by orchards, vineyards, nurseries, and campsites alike. Leadership passed to son Carl Fanno in 1949, and on to grandson Robb Fanno, the third generation to run the company. A century on, Fanno still manufactures its pruning and utility saws in the USA — the same family, holding to the same standard of craft.
Our Products
Our saws are made in the USA, and we take pride in manufacturing the fastest-cutting, longest-lasting pruning and utility saws available to professionals. We use only quality American steel, and replacement blades are readily available for every frame — a Fanno saw is built to be rehung, not thrown away.
This uncompromising approach to steel and tooth geometry is why a Fanno blade cuts clean season after season. We believe a quality saw is a working investment — a tool that earns its keep for decades, not one to be replaced each year.
