ARS FAQ

Ownership

Yes. Hickok Tools and Family Brands is the official U.S. importer and distributor of ARS tools, engineered and manufactured in Japan by ARS Corporation.

ARS Materials & Craftsmanship

ARS tools have been manufactured in Japan for over 150 years, using high-carbon steel and stainless steel blades depending on the model. Every blade is precision-ground and heat-treated for exceptional edge retention and clean cuts, and select models feature chrome plating for corrosion resistance.

ARS tools are manufactured under ARS Corporation's own renowned quality control process, with precision grinding and heat treatment for every blade. Every ARS tool is tested for at least one year before we import it into the USA market.

ARS hand pruners use bypass cutting — the blade slices past a hook, producing clean cuts that promote healthy plant healing. The 300L series features a needle-nose profile for detailed work in tight spaces (thinning fruit clusters, deadheading, precision trimming), and ARS long-reach pruners telescope from 6' to 10' for overhead cuts without a ladder.

Hand pruners, multi-purpose shears, pruning saws and telescopic long-reach pruners — precision tools engineered for the professional horticulture trade.

ARS is a favorite among arborists, landscapers and horticulturists who need a razor-sharp, reliable cut every time.

Caring for Your ARS Tools

Clean the blades after each use with a cloth dampened in rubbing alcohol or a mild solvent. Oil the pivot point and blade regularly with a light machine oil or camellia oil to prevent rust. Sharpen periodically with a fine whetstone or diamond sharpener, keeping the original bevel angle, and store in a dry place — a thin coat of oil on metal surfaces helps for extended storage.

Brush sawdust from the teeth after each use to prevent buildup and corrosion, and wipe the blade with an oiled cloth to protect against rust.
